The Difference

I want to educate everyone about Bulldogs before they go out and buy one. To educate you we must go back to the history of the breed. In the early 1900’s the bulldog was introduced to the USA. The breeders in this time took those true original bulls baiting Bulldog. In that era of time other breeders also changed the standard of Poodles, Schnauzers, Dobermans, Mastiffs etc. etc. into Miniature breeds. Well, by doing this many health problems evolved into the genetic profile of the true Bulldog. They lost part of their spine so c-section births only. They are born with deformed trachea which is the cause of the breathing/respiratory problems, elongated pallet, hip dysphasia, luxating patella, entropian-eye problems, spinal, nerve, muscle conditions, heart murmurs, skin conditions, respiratory and fertility problems. They are unable to breed naturally (only by artificial insemination) and whelp pups only by c-section. We purchased our dogs from a quality breeder which their pups were imported from Italy.

My dogs can run all day, swim, jump on the back of a Toyota, trampoline, and roam our 3 acres. My males breed natural. My females do not have c-sections. They have larger litters 8-13 pups. They don’t get sick or get respiratory infections like AKC bulldogs did. They are larger and better built. Our dogs have massive, wrinkled, block heads, barrel bodies, and thick tree trunk legs. Real bull baiting bulldogges.

AKC standard – 12”-14” at shoulders 40-55 lbs

Our dogs – 16”-18” at shoulders 65-90 lbs

Bottom Line

I just wanted a dog I didn’t have to treat like a sickly child with asthma and a dog that could keep up with my kids and not have to worry about them dieing from the already genetic defects or over exhaustion. I found it in the dogs we have purchased that were imported. I am very happy with them and would love to share them with others. This was my experience. If you still choose to purchase an AKC bulldog then that is your decision. Everyone has to learn your own way.
